Sort of a click bait title, but it’s a fascinating look at how economies work. This is kind of a textbook illustration of how capitalism works, and the benefits it can bring. The flight is expensive and you need an “elite” upper class tourist market to really get things moving. Eventually it trickles down to more affordable flights and services as the market grows and improves. Those greedy capitalists, making St Helena great? How DARE they!

  And for the big government apologists, the airport was financed by the government, so if it works out that this ultimately brings in business, it’s a credit to public-private partnerships. Government can do good when working *with* the market..... I hope St Helena becomes a success story and I can someday catch a cheap flight over there for a vacation. ☺️
