lighten up. He was joking. Bill Burr is one of the best comedians now cause he's not afraid of being politically incorrect. He's revealing, through comedy, the hypocrisy of men who claim to for women (cough cough Harvey Weinstein) while simultaneously taking advantage of them. Man, humor is lost these days.

Huh. Interesting perspective, Dave. If that is what he is trying to do then excellent. My concern then would be that this message is lost on 90% of the audience. For example, don’t you think Harvey Weinstein would have thought this was hilarious rather than convicting? I fear that in the end this kind of humor is desensitizing rather than sensitizing. But either way you have given me something to think about today.

JC, I don’t mean to speak for others, but I believe WOYT is the opposite of BOYT.

I think Harvey might have found it funny because it's exactly what he was doing — Pretending to be an advocate for women while doing the opposite. Same with Bill Cosby. I'm not sure what you mean by desensitizing. The best comedy is truth-telling comedy. He's telling the truth about characters like Weinstein but taking it to an absurd level — it's satire. Satire exposes the absurdity or evil of things.

Yes, that is what satire does which is an important role where just speaking the truth plainly is dangerous or just too complicated. But here the evil is so plainly evil that it seems gratuitous to wrap it up in a comedy act. By desensitizing I mean it actually numbs us to the problem rather than waking us up to it. So was the “gayest smile†line also a subtle attempt to highlight remaining biases in our culture against homosexuals? I think he is just being shocking and vulgar to get a laugh and make a buck. But I readily admit I could be totally wrong and you could be correct in which case you are a better man than I. Either way I have learned a new four letter acronym that is the power to trigger a fascinating discussion.
