It is just a change from a addition to a subtraction by telling the story in a certain way. But it keeps your mind busy by not believe what it says but calculating itself.

When they receive a dollar back (into their pockets) they have each paid $9 TO THE CASHIER. times that by 3 and u get 27, the missing $3 is in each of their pockets ($1 back each). Like whats said by TM its said a certain way. Think about what they have paid the cashier, not the bell boy.

Exactly. The $2 should not be added to the $27 because it is already included. The men only paid $27, not $30, so no money is actually missing ($25 to the cashier + $2 to the bellhop).

Yes. $25 is $8.33 each, but they paid $9 each because of the $2 tip, which is $0.66 each, adding up to $9.

So stupid. Why add the $2 at the end, when it should clearly be subtracted?
