We wouldn't be able to source the incredible amount of rare earth elements required to produce the amount of solar panels required to make this a common occurrence. Also, just because something is 'environmentally friendly' doesn't mean it was environmentally friendly to produce.

Solar power harvesting is The future, but not with this technology shown on the video. Just stop and imagine the huge amounts of natural resources and money they had to spend to build these tiles. Not to mention the maintenance they would have support for keeping those tiles working. This would be beyond belief...

From what I understand, we can make more and more solar arrays with current tech, with needing to make all the roads PV. But the problem that need to be over come is storage of that power, for when the sun is not shining.
