The intersection part is bullshit! While waiting at the traffic lights the distance between cars is very small. But while driving this distance should be bigger for safety reasons. Therefor you cant all start at a traffic light at the same time because then the distance between cars would stay the same. You could therefore all wait in front of the traffic light while remaining more distance between cars. But that will result in exactly the same time for cars to cross the intersection as the way we do it now.
