  Hmm I'm not so sure, the guy working on it had his hand on it. So maybe the reporter assumed it was stable and that the guy was just holding on to it.. At least he's learnt a valuable lesson...

He wasn't laughing. He knew he was still on camera and was trying to maintain his composure. It looked more like a grimace than a smile to me. I don't think it was fake at all.
