Well, good luck fighting global corporations and planned obsolescence. No change will come from within the monetary system.

yes that could be an idea if phones hadn't been invented yet... and a good base to start producing them... But now... On an industrial point of view, this is nonsense, so it won't happen...

You guys are right. This won't take off for at least two reasons. One, it's not profitable for companies that thrive on consumers buying entirely new phones. This is why college textbooks are revamped (or, "edited" as they claim) and republished every couple of years. And two, most people care less about having an eco-friendly phone than they care about having a "cool" phone. This just doesn't have the potential for being competitive. TLDR: Great idea, but it won't work.

i disagree with all of you I think this idea has a lot of merit. Less cost to companies plus more ability to customize your phone in a customize-able crazy world would generate enough profits to make this viable. Especially since the range of customization reaches across all age and user groups. From the person who just wants something to call on to someone who wants the latest and greatest. Plus I bet they could get some government cash for producing less waste.

I think this will work regardless of the point that this is not profitable for the major mobile companies. This could introduce another competitor on the market and put pressure on the other companies to lower their prices.

Everyone should go to Reddit and see why this idea is impossible.
