Interesting fact: The lion share of plastic in the ocean comes from third world countries. The US and other developed nations are very good about disposing of plastic properly in landfills.

  That's really interesting. I just had a quick look and sure enough, it is all third-world countries in the top ten, that's assuming China is considered a third world country. Even if it is not, that is 9 out of the top 10 polluters are third world. I'm quite ignorant when it comes to other countries, but I imagine it will be hard to enforce better pollution rules on countries that can't afford it, or, just don't care.
