This is why AI faces will never work. This is so obviously fake. I don’t care how much you improve the algorithm, you’ll never be able to convince somebody you recognizes you that you’re them when you’re not. Now convincing someone who doesn’t know you that you’re real when you’re not is totally achievable. But once a human learns who another human/friend/wife is they’ll never be convinced by AI. And even if they are, they’ll demand an in-person interaction to confirm.

I honestly think you're underestimating how early into this AI we are and how fast its progressing. We already live in an age where people distrust reputable news sources and actively share fake stories and conspiracy theories on a regular basis. Imagine when this tech becomes believable enough to sway world events, or worse yet, believable enough that real videos of importance are decried as fake. I honestly think deep fakes have the potential to be the next big thing we have to contend with in the information age.

DaveJoyce. As in never? Obviously this example looks fake because we know the persons already and you knew it was fake to begin with. But one day I'll bet you will be fouled because the AI will be improved and even be used frequently in cases like newscasting and forecasting.

That video entirely proves my point. Nobody will be fooled by AI in any substantive way that ever matters. That Chinese news anchor was clearly robotic. We’re far too attuned to human nuance to ever be fooled completely.

I think you need to look beyond the next few years Dave and keep a fairly open mind.... history is filled with naysayers saying “it will never...â€

Maybe. But it seems like recently we have a lot of people acting like it’s 1950s when robots were going to take over the world. I think shows like Westworld make otherwise sensible people just get very irrational. I think maybe they’re just underestimating intelligence and overestimating scientist’s ability to create real intelligence.
