So the message is, "Eat more food than you're hungry for," or "Don't buy strawberries unless you plan to eat them all," or "Farmers shouldn't grow so many strawberries," or "They ought to sell strawberries in smaller packages," or... ?

  The message is pretty clear for every normal thinking person. We send our food from all corners of the earth and then we trow 40% of it away. So obviously you should just make sure to finish the food you buy or buy less. Not that hard to understand.....

No need to be insulting. I don't really feel like writing an essay, but consider that farming, packaging, transportation, warehousing and marketing on a global scale are far from straightforward. Simply overeating what I have brought home will not affect anything in the pipeline. Purchasing less of a renewable resource like strawberries will undeniably have some effects (driving down the price, for one, which creates a hardship for the farmers). Why are the strawberries (as a representative food) sold in such large packages in the first place? My point is that the consumer may not be the solution to the problem, and it's not clear exactly what the problem is. I stand by that.
