Did the narrator call the kid a "kiwi"? Is that New Zealand slang?

  Yes DaveJoyce, Kiwi is a bird, and New Zealanders are called Kiwis after the bird. In the 1950s because American's hated the Chinese they knew that the Chinese Gooseberrys that NZ was growing wouldn't catch on so we renamed them Kiwifruit, as in the fruit of the Kiwi people. That's there correct name, and no one here would call them Kiwis as it's just weird. We actually developed them into a new fruit altogether as well. Golden Kiwifruit is the best variety by far.
