  To hold the camera :) Also, why isn't this guy's suit plastered with sponsors?

  Among other things it's primary use is to protect his head. Landing can occasionally be quite heavy and i believe they are mandatory for skydiving with in FAA's regulations. They can also be used for displaying the altitude and for camera's :D
