Somehow I wouldn't be asking this guy for tips on how to survive the desert. Wear black?? Hmmm.

  Yeah, this sounded crazy to me too. I looked into it and the only way black can make you cooler is by increasing moisture wicking. In the right conditions, or periods of intense physical exertion this could add to your advantage assuming you were wearing clothing apt to encourage wicking - i.e NOT a cloak!! Basically the wicking advantage has to be greater than the heat dissadvantage. Wind or speed can tilt this in your favor. Still as general advice for "how to survive the desert" I think it sucks!
