Probably your ancestors said the same seeing for the first time a wheel. Inventions are never for just one purpose; that device can certainly be useful for other things.

@ gardane The gyroscope was invented about 200 years ago, sure it can be used for many things but it was a good idea using it in a pool table at sea.

Is that supposed to be sarcastic? This is actually a really good idea. A pool table was impossible on a boat before now it's possible that is what inventions are about.

I've actually played on those. You couldn't notice it when I was playing because the sea was really calm but seeing this is impressive.

It is actually based on a technology to keep oil drilling platforms stable in stormy sea. It's also interesting to see how the balls would roll around when the table is turned off, even if the sea is calm.
