So... we talk about "carjackers" here. All "normal" people will naturally think "Oh my god, anyone can control my car and make me have an accident !!". But... wait a minute : Who is enough dumb to enter in his car and don't notice the dashboard completely removed, all the wires, etc... and especially the guy on the backseat (the CARJACKER !!) hiding behind a black hoodie and using a computer ? Seriously man... And in an other hand, who will be so dumb he will make an accident happen to the car he is the passenger ? Yes ! Because to "carjack" you have to have physical access to the car... meaning you have to be inside the car while driving !!! :) i can continue to sleep well, carjacking will not be the next threat before the year 3000 or something like that !

Yes, because it only took 50 years from the development of the first to get to where we are now. With Technology at the point it is already, I wouldnt be surprised if they already have created a chip to be inserted into your car which can control it from a remote location.

yep, they're injecting onto the CAN network, we already have $8 microcontrollers with CAN capability (like the NXP LPC176x series), and we also now have a plethora of DIY-grade CAN tools you can get. So what Herril11 says IS ALREADY AVAILABLE. But think about it: to pull off this attack, a carjacker needs access to the CAN network inside the car. If they have access to the car, then they can already steal it. So it's not carjackers that you should be worried about doing something like this, it's the people who actually want to do you bodily harm that you should be worried about.
