What a load of bunk. The cells and design inherent in the eye did not appear out of nowhere. Evolution doesn't remotely explain how you can get something from nothing. Dawkins is a fool who is desperate to explain away God. That's his religion, that's his faith. Science has nothing to do with it.

It is in fact a reasonable explanation. What is your reasonable explanation of God?

I find this is be a very interesting explanation of how the eye may have evolved. As both a scientist and a devout Christian, the idea that I am the result of an evolutionary process does not trouble me at all. Given what we know from genomics, comparative anatomy, etc. this seems the simplest explanation to me. This does not however diminish my concept of God, but rather expands it. The universe is complex and if there is a God behind it, as I believe there is, that God must be very complex indeed. So complex it is foolish to assume that we can fully understand God of God's will, but only begin to have an inkling (like the inkling I have of complex scientific matters outside my own field.) Others of course will take a different view and that is fine so long as those views can coexist peacefully with others.

As long as it's not contradicting the Earth being flat, the theory is acceptable.

"If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down."--Charles Darwin, Origin of Species. With this statement, Charles Darwin provided a criterion by which his theory of evolution could be falsified.

bet you're squirming at this now Mr Dawkins. How many animals were eaten by predators while their eye was 'evolving'? You've made a career out of trying to trash a God that you don't believe exists and yet you are now saying that you believe that human life may have begun by ;seeds' planted on earth be a superior intelligent alien race (see Ben Stein interview with you). Anything out of the natural - except a supernatural Creator is your motto! And all the parts had to work together perfectly the first time. A lens that produces a blurry image is nearly useless from a survival standpoint; a non-functional retina or an opaque cornea renders the other parts useless. Once you get past those hurdles, then comes the question of how the brain interprets signals from the eyes. That had to be present from the beginning as well. How did animals 'know' to 'evolve' eyes in the first place; that would require knowledge of external reality (no point in eyes unless there is something to see). How was the light frequency passband decided on — light extends from infrared to ultraviolet; a frequency range spanning several octaves. Insects can see ultraviolet, snakes can sense infrared, humans are 'confined' to the narrow band in between. Why?
