Did you notice that the center of gravity is marked on each one so it's easy to find the balance point? And the sticks get larger so the counterweight offsets the weight of all the previous sticks, and obviously the last one is designed to balance on the end like that (probably no matter how much weight is on it, up to its breaking point of course). So the balancing is not that impressive -- but the design / engineering work that went into it, plus the physical / athletic skills (because he must get serious muscle fatigue) --- now THAT is impressive!
